George Bowering is a poet, novelist, critic, professor and editor from Penticton, BC. He won the 1969 Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry for The Gangs of Kosmos and the 1980 Governor General’s Award for Fiction for his novel Burning Water. He has published over forty books, and in 2002 he was appointed the first Canadian Poet Laureate, a position he held until 2004. He was written extensively about baseball among other sports.
